One morning last week The Boy invited me to play 1-2-3 Roll with him. I had not heard of this game. He told me he played it with "the sisters" and said he'd show me how. So up we went to his room. And he showed me the game:
I walked myself right into a fit mom memorable moment. There are too many ways to count how this made my morning. Any mom (not just a mom who has blogged about making fitness a priority for herself and her family for almost six years...) swoons when kids create their own active play without any encouragement, recruit their siblings, and move for fun. Good old fashioned fun. Look closely, that is not an iPad.
He asked a sister to write up the directions, he said, but took credit for making up the game.
While the beam of pride warmed my heart I asked The Boy to demonstrate for me (and for you because I know a potential blog post when I see one).
You roll the die, he explained, and here's what you do depending on how it lands (pajamas optional):
If you roll a one, then "Clappin Jacks 1 Time."
If your roll a two, then "2 Somersautts."
If you roll a three, then "3 Pushups."
If you roll a four, then "4 Bunnyhops."
If you roll a five, then "5 Bridges."
If you roll a six, then "6 Crabwalk steps."
Letting your 4-year-old be your personal trainer is a great way to find fitness in the chaos of motherhood.
Do you play any kid-created fit games at your house?
